Summary of the Artist Prosper Lecourtier (1851–1924) was a prominent French sculptor belonging to the 19th-century Animaliers movement. A pupil of the renowned master Emmanuel Frémiet, Lecourtier stood out for his strong anatomical mastery, dynamism, and naturalistic expression in the representation of animals (especially dogs and hunting scenes). He continually exhibited at the prestigious Salon de Paris from 1875, where he earned various honorable medals (1879, 1880, 1902), as well as a bronze medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition.
