Ca. mid-1st millennium BC. A thin sheet gold appliqué modelled in low relief as a recumbent lion with a narrow marginal flange, the head turned in profile. Size: 43mm x 24mm; Weight: 4.4g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery.
