Antique pocket watch, probably a so-called 'Ottoman' or French-style pocket watch with an open-case or savonette-like construction (likely late 19th or early 20th century). The transition to the remontoir (crown) winding system and the use of the Swiss .800 silver Auerhahn hallmark The Maker: Schneeberger-Calame. This was a renowned workshop of watch-case makers (fabricants de boîtes de montres) based in Biel (Bienne), Switzerland. More precise dating: Schneeberger-Calame registered this specific maker's mark on 28 April 1887. The company ceased to exist in this form on 11 October 1900, when it merged with another company. Shipped by registered mail and carefully packaged.
