Sandor Strelisky Miniature, Hungary, 19th C

Descriptio Sándor Strelisky, of Jewish origin, who continued the tradition of photographic art in his father’s studio in Pest/Budapest.This watercolour-painted photograph depicts Empress Elisabeth (born Duchess Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie in Bavaria), popularly known as Sisi or Sissi. She was Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary from her marriage to Franz Joseph I of Austria on 24 April 1854 until her assassination in 1898.This is a very rare depiction of the Empress, who was reluctant to sit for artists or photographers. The scarcity of surviving works by this photographic artist has increased collectors’ interest in acquiring such rare pieces. Dimensions of the work: 21 × 17.5 cm. Frame dimensions: 28 × 24.5 cm.
