Saint Joseph with the Child, Granada school of Anastasio Bocanegra

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 91 x 72 cm. Saint Joseph holds the Christ Child in a half-length composition that emphasizes the affectionate closeness between the two sacred figures. The saint is identified by the flowering staff adorned with lilies, a symbol of purity and divine election, while the Child gazes upwards in an attitude of serene contemplation. The concentrated lighting highlights the flesh tones and creates soft transitions of light that add volume and depth. The monumentality of the figures, the vigor of the drapery, and the expressive naturalism recall the models developed by the Sevillian Baroque school around Herrera the Elder. The work conveys an intense domestic spirituality and is an eloquent example of 17th-century Spanish devotional painting. Dimensions: 91 x 72 cm.
