Rugby / French Championship / Bordeaux Charles POPINEAU (1871–1948) 4 vintage silver prints, photographs taken during the French Rugby Championships in 1901, 1904, and 1905 Scenes of play on fields bordered by embankments where spectators crowd together: scrums, lineouts with the ball in the air, goalposts in the background. Pascal Laporte can be recognized One of the 1904 photographs depicts the Bordeaux–Lyon semifinal (10–3), played at the Faisanderie in Saint-Cloud. A rare record of the early days of rugby in France, captured by a renowned photographer from Lyon. 8.5 x 11 cm (minor tears and missing sections, stains and water marks, a slightly discolored print)
