Tutte le aste / Altro / Royal Delft (De Porceleyne Fles) - Tobacco jar - Earthenware

A hand-painted Delft blue ginger jar (or tobacco jar) with rich floral decor and a matching cannelé (ribbed) lid. This specific model and painting is characteristic for the ginger jars of Royal Delft (De Porceleyne Fles) an antique Delft blue tobacco jar with the inscription "St. Vincent" and a copper or brass lid. De Porceleyne Fles (Royal Delft): Pieces from 1930 are recognizable by the iconic apothecary bottle with the slanted letters 'JT' underneath. On the right side they always have a year code Features and history: • The inscription: In the 18th and 19th centuries these earthenware pots were used to keep snuff- or smoking tobacco fresh. The text on the cartouche, such as "St. Vincent", refers to the origin of the tobacco (in this case the Caribbean island Saint Vincent). • The decoration: The pot is adorned with typical Delft Baroque floral motifs and garlands around the text field. Often figures such as smoking Indigenous Americans flank the sides (as a symbol of the tobacco trade). The pot is in perfect condition.
