Rosenthal Studio-Linie – Tapio Wirkkala – Annual Plate “Water Bubbles” – Edition 1971 – No. 2562/3000 A special and sculptural work of art by Rosenthal Studio-Linie, designed in 1971 by the internationally renowned Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985). The large porcelain plate has a pronounced organic relief of several round, interlocking forms, often referred to as “Wasserblasen” (water bubbles). The relief and the matte gold finish give the object, depending on the lighting, an almost metallic, sculptural appearance. This Jahresteller was produced in 1971 in a limited edition of only 3,000 copies. Each piece was individually numbered. This is number 2562/3000, clearly indicated on the reverse, together with Rosenthal Jahresteller – Edition 1971 – Design: Tapio Wirkkala. It is furthermore the first edition within Rosenthal’s Jahreskünstlerteller series, making this early specimen particularly interesting for collectors of Rosenthal Studio-Linie and the work of Tapio Wirkkala. Material: porcelain, matte gilding Designer: Tapio Wirkkala Manufacturer: Rosenthal Studio-Linie, Germany Year: 1971 Edition: 2562/3000 Diameter: approximately 31–31.2 cm The object is in very nice and well-preserved vintage condition, especially considering its age of over 50 years. The porcelain is intact, without chips, cracks or restorations. The distinctive matte gold finish is well preserved and the organic relief comes beautifully into its own. Only minimal, age- and use-related signs and a scratch are present, appropriate for an authentic object from 1971. The original Rosenthal mark, designer credit and individual numbering 2562/3000 on the reverse are clearly legible. The item will be securely packaged for insured shipment with tracking.
