Set of three collectible porcelain art plates from the Rosenthal studio-line Künstlerteller series, created by prominent European artists and issued in limited editions of 5,000 examples. Each plate transforms fine Rosenthal porcelain into an individual artwork, combining the artist’s characteristic visual language with a handwritten text incorporated into the composition. The lot consists of: No. 9 – Hildegard Knef – 1976 An expressive depiction of a horse against a vivid red-orange background, created by the celebrated German actress, singer and artist Hildegard Knef. The composition incorporates Knef’s handwritten, playfully altered German proverb: “Einem geschenkten Gaul blickt man nicht hinter die Kiemen.” No. 17 – Ernst Fuchs – 1981 A flowing, visionary composition in intense pink, purple, orange and yellow tones, centred around an eye-like abstract form. Ernst Fuchs was one of the founders of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism. The plate bears his handwritten statement: “Kunst, die Versenkung in die Möglichkeit aller Wirklichkeit.” No. 18 – Otto Herbert Hajek – 1982 A bold geometric abstraction composed of contrasting blue, black, red, orange and white elements.
