For Rosa Cortiella, developing this piece was quite a challenge. When she observed Maria Per- gay’s“Rare dining table” that she connected with the artist. The holes and shadows it emitted reminded her of one of her own pieces, “The Weight of Absence,” which she has now reinterpreted in her honor. Rosa’s original piece, constructed with refractory clay and painted with acrylics, diffe- red significantly from Maria Pergay’s signature metal aesthetic. In this new interpretation, Cortiella transforms the painted ceramic material into colored porcelain, creating two concentric perforated and sturdy cylinders that resemble metal. It’s the absence of material that turns this piece into a sculptural table with a glass top.
