ROOTED IN THE MOOR II by Gary Westall Painting 19.7 x 23.6 :: This is the second version of my piece ‘Rooted in the Moor’ from the series ‘Happy and Grateful on the Moor’. It depicts a tree in the moor with its roots and trunk rendered in intense sometimes unusual colours. The contrast between the cool blue of the tree and the warm earthy tones of the ground as well as the violet background creates a unique atmosphere that balances tranquillity and vitality. The moss on the trunk further connects the tree to its surroundings and emphasises the theme of rootedness. Compared to the first version I have worked more with colour contrasts and textures here to highlight the connection between the tree the ground and the atmosphere more clearly. Signed lower right.
