Romantic Gold & Diamond Putti Pendant, England ca. 1900

Two small putti hold a swinging ribbon richly decorated with delicately engraved roses. They stand on the symmetrically folding ends and appear to balance on them. Small rose cut diamonds adorn the ribbon and a large rosette-shaped pendant, centrally bearing another diamond rose in a silver setting, is movably attached to the arrangement. At the top, a small chain mediates to the gold chain and reinforces the swing motif of the jewellery. It is an unusual object made of gold and a total of six small diamonds that plays on the idea of balance with its rocking or seesaw motif. The pendant found its way to us in London and it dates back to Victorian times, we added the gold chain in a matching pattern. An unusual piece of jewellery for balanced people or those in search of inner balance - who knows? Maybe the balanced putti can help?
