Ca. AD 200 - 400. An intaglio engraved with Mercury standing in profile, holding a long staff in his left hand. The figure stands on a short groundline. Set in a possibly later gold ring, the oval gem is enclosed by a plain collet above broad rounded shoulders and a substantial semicircular hoop tapering towards the underside.
