ROMAN GLASS AFRICAN HEAD IN SILVER RING

Ca. AD 1 - 300. A green glass head in the form of an African, modelled with tightly curled hair, recessed eyes, a broad nose and full lips. Mounted in a possibly later silver ring, the head is pierced transversely and turns on a pin held between looped terminals of a slender D-section hoop. Size: D:19.56mm / US: 9 3/4 / UK: T; Weight: 4.2g Provenance: Private central London collection; previously acquired on the UK art market prior to 2000.
