RODCHENKO (Alexander) — Elisabeth I. 1937 Paris, Galerie Alain Paviot - Octant, 1991. Oblong in-4 album, approx. 26.5 × 22.5 cm, covers of metallic gray paper, red printed label pasted onto the front cover, red spiral binding, [approx. 40] pp., 16 black-and-white photographs printed on thick coated paper. Catalog No. 4 of the Galerie Alain Paviot, dedicated to a remarkable photographic series by Alexandre Rodchenko (1891–1956) created in 1937 featuring Elisabeth Ignatovich. The volume is listed as having a print run of 356 copies and reproduces sixteen previously unpublished photographs. In my opinion, it is significantly more interesting from a bibliographic standpoint than several of the previous catalogs. The book itself is very well done: a minimalist design, a metallic cover, a red spiral binding, and photographs set alone on large white pages. It fits particularly well with Rodchenko’s Constructivist aesthetic. The recovered commercial bibliography describes precisely 3 text sheets followed by XVI plates; one copy is also noted as including the price list, which was thus a loose insert in some copies. The print run was limited to 356 copies. A very fine copy. The covers show a few small marks and superficial scuffing, but the delicate metallic cover is well preserved; the spiral binding is intact and the interior is in very fresh condition.
