Rijk gedecoreerde antieke jardinière – neorenaissance –...

Richly decorated antique jardinière – Neo-Renaissance – glass inner liner – likely circa 1880–1910 A small showpiece with a grand presence. This elegant jardinière combines a clear glass inner liner with a particularly richly worked metal frame. Graceful tendrils, fantasy figures, and striking heads together form a decoration that reveals new details with every glance. The elongated model with rounded corners is crowned on both sides by sweeping handles with grotesque heads. In between unfolds an openwork pattern of scrolls, flowers and stylized human figures. A fine ornamental comb along the top edge and the stout claw feet complete the composition. The contrast between the transparent glass and the dark patinated metal gives the jardinière extra depth. On the higher-lying parts warmer metal tones light up, making the ornaments stand out beautifully. The charm of the table setting around 1900 This type of jardinière fits within the European tradition of decorative tabletop pieces for flowers and greenery. Around 1900, glass inner liners were combined with richly decorated metal frames, ensuring an attractive showpiece on the table even outside the flowering season. The imaginative figures, grotesques and leaf ornaments align with the Neo-Renaissance, with Neo-Baroque influences. Based on the design, this specimen is presumably dated to circa 1880–1910.
