RIDINGER (Johann Elias). Türkischer Pferdsaufbuz samt einem die nötigen Anmerkungen hierzu enthaltenden Brief. Augsburg, Martin Elias Ridinger, 1752. Oblong folio, plum-colored half-maroquin (mid-19th-century binding). First edition of this very rare series of 4 plates, preceded by a title page containing a lengthy explanation on the reverse. This series of four sumptuously harnessed Turkish horses, depicting high-ranking Ottoman dignitaries, is based on drawings executed in Constantinople and sent to Ridinger by Baron Gudemus. Following this is a set of 32 plates depicting horses from all parts of Europe. The plates, drawn by Johann Elias Ridinger and engraved by Martin Elias Ridinger—one of the author’s two sons, both of whom were engravers—are accompanied by captions in German, French, and Latin; they are not numbered. The binding has been damaged by water and is ruined, but the plates are intact.
