Rare coffee service produced by Richard Ginori, model “Vecchio Ginori”. The origins of the sinuous style, characteristic of all Vecchio Ginori porcelains, are lost in the course of the 18th century. History has left us with a small detail, but significant: an expression through which it was common to refer precisely to this shape. A precious heritage of the past that allows us to perceive even today the greatness and strength that made it immune, almost estranged, to the passage of centuries. In Doccia, a magical place where our Ginori 1735 house was born, it was common to call “alla sassone” that characteristic border of porcelain dinnerware and of all other objects that bore this name. A saying justified by the 18th-century Germanic tradition, according to which porcelains were made with reliefs similar to those of woven baskets. Not by chance, “ozier” is the somewhat more technical term used to indicate this type of raised decoration, whose translation from German to Italian exactly corresponds to “basket in wicker.” A tradition that the masters of the Manifattura have made their own, rendering the weaves more delicate, the lines more sinuous, with a taste and artisanal craftsmanship properly Italian that made immortal this simple yet elegant motif. All the set’s items stand out for the raised-work on the fine porcelain, which renders the design classic and unmistakable.
