Renato Volpini (1934-2017) – Platter/Sculpture in glazed ceramic – 1965 Description of the work Refined and rare maiolica ceramic plate entirely hand-painted by the renowned Marche master Renato Volpini, dated 1965. The work pairs the Italian ceramic tradition with the avant-garde figuration of the 1960s, a period in which the artist moved between the suggestions of Pop Art and the Milanese informal experimentation. The plate depicts a stylized profile face, topped by an enigmatic geometric/ocular element, a recurring motif that anticipates his famous spatial visions and the "useless machines". The colors are rich and vibrant: a deep ruby red serves as the background for the central cream-colored silhouette, enriched at the base by bluish, ochre, and brown matte shading. The surface features a fascinating craquelé effect of the vitreous glaze, typical of the firing and the era, which adds further aesthetic and tactile value to the object. On the back, the work bears the authentic signature and the autograph dating "renato '65" traced by brush under varnish. The original metal hook for wall mounting is also present.
