Rare blue allophane

From our selection of collectible minerals we propose a rare specimen of crystals on an allophane matrix from the Mt. Copello-Reppia Mine, Ne, Liguria. Moreover, it is characterized by a mammillary crystal habit in an intense blue color that stands out clearly against the brown-ochre matrix rich in oxides, with well-developed globular botryoids and shiny surfaces, which enhance its aesthetic value and mineralogical significance. The specimen stands out for the quality of crystallization and for the overall aesthetic balance, with features that highlight its natural structure and visual impact. Allophane is a hydrated amorphous aluminosilicate (a mineralogic soft solid, lacking an ordered crystal structure) that forms by alteration of other aluminosilicate minerals or volcanic glass in surface weathering environments. The blue color, uncommon for this species, is linked to trace copper or other chromophore elements in the solution from which it precipitates. The Mt. Copello-Reppia Mine, in Val Graveglia (Liguria), is a historically known site for manganese deposits, in whose secondary paragenesis occasional alteration phases such as allophane occur. This is an ideal specimen for mineral collections, display, and for those who appreciate the natural beauty of minerals, even within the realm of crystal therapy and lithotherapy, according to the properties traditionally associated with the mineral species. All minerals are 100% natural and unprocessed, with very rare exceptions always noted in the description. Photos are taken with professional lighting to best showcase colors and details; however, slight tonal variations may occur depending on the device or ambient light.
