Raak Amsterdam - J.W. Bosman - Wall lamp (3) - Set 1960s Zonnewende - Glass

Set of 3 Raak Amsterdam “Zonnewende” C-1705 Wall Lamps by J.W. Bosman – 1960s In excellent condition – No reserve. A rare and highly desirable set of three original Raak Amsterdam “Zonnewende” (Solstice) C-1705 wall lamps, designed by J.W. Bosman around 1965. This exceptional collection combines sculptural Dutch Space Age design with spectacular textured crystal glass, creating a striking architectural lighting ensemble. Each lamp features two cylindrical crystal-glass shades mounted on a horizontal metal arm with a circular wall plate. The heavily textured glass produces a beautiful, sparkling, jewel-like effect when illuminated, creating atmospheric light reflections across the surrounding walls. The set comprises three lamps with distinctive original finishes: one black-coloured metal version and two bronze/copper-brown versions. Together, they offer a cohesive yet visually varied collection of iconic Mid-Century Modern lighting. The lamps retain their original Raak Amsterdam C-1705 manufacturer’s labels, providing valuable confirmation of their model identification. The C-1705 is documented in Raak’s lighting catalogues as a two-light wall lamp with crystal cylinders. Raak Catalogue 8 describes the C-1705/C-1706 group under “kristal – fonkelende flonkering van licht”, referring to the sparkling, glittering effect of the crystal glass. The Zonnewende series belongs to the particularly creative period of Dutch lighting design during the 1960s, when Raak Amsterdam became internationally recognised for its innovative materials, experimental forms and technically sophisticated luminaires. Designed by J.W. Bosman, these lamps are excellent examples of the Space Age aesthetic, combining substantial glass shades with elegant metalwork. This is a rare opportunity to acquire three examples of a documented Raak design in one auction lot. Ideal for a designer interior, a statement lighting installation or a collection of Dutch Mid-Century Modern lighting. A spectacular set and a true eye-catcher.
