Precious Belle Époque brooch with diamonds & natural pearl in platinum

"Butterfly! ... Butterfly!" - The last bars of Madama have faded away, the audience still shudders briefly at the sad music - but as soon as the gas lights are lit and the great hall of the Opéra-Comique fills with its golden light, the laughter of the ladies rings out, the bravos of the audience resound, and it is clear: the first performance of the opera in Paris in 1905 was a complete success! After a short two and a half hours of gazing spellbound at the stage, our eyes only slowly adjust to the light. Slowly, very slowly, the black suits of the gentlemen emerge from the darkness; the red liveried ushers can be recognized earlier. The golden stucco work of the hall emerges from the darkness, the genii and busts under the ceiling of the large circle. The ladies' large gowns glow in the light. Silk crackles, atlas rustles, and jewellery made of countless diamonds glistens with the first spark of the lamps. Diamonds everywhere you look, set in silver to enhance their white radiance in the warm light of the lamps. Brooches, rings, necklaces, tiaras in Belle Époque shapes: elegantly curved, with echoes of the Rococo, Baroque, Renaissance or graphically modern ... This brooch could have been one of them. Created in the years around 1905, it speaks precisely this formal language of the Belle Époque. Its shape is elongated, with two intertwined curves of platinum forming the basic shape. Their ends end in leaf shapes and their surface is richly set with diamonds. A creamy white natural pearl, an oriental pearl, is set in the center. The curved frame of the brooch clearly shows the influence of Art Nouveau. The platinum design with diamonds and pearl is typical of high-quality evening jewelry of the period. We have commissioned an independent appraisal of the brooch, which has confirmed the quality of the materials.
