Precious Art Deco Ring with Diamonds & Gemstones in Gold, c. 1930

This ring makes an impression. A wide rail lifts a large, angular ring face high above the finger. Precious gemstones are gathered on it like on a tray, or rather like on a plateau or a marketplace, each individually set in frames, like small buildings, and placed close together. Spheres of gold are set between them. Light and shadow, gold and color alternate and form a luminous, precious little world. A large cushion-cut old-cut diamond, weighing around 1.90 ct, sparkles alongside six other old-cut diamonds. Three natural colored stones - a ruby, a sapphire and an emerald - enrich the arrangement with colorful reflections. The diamonds are set in platinum, the colored stones in yellow gold. The ring was created in Germany during the Weimar Republic. This is not only suggested by the typical design. The use of unusually low-alloyed gold and the use of significantly older gemstones is also a clear sign of this period: The diamonds are 19th century stones that were reused here during a period of economic restriction. We have renewed the colored stones in our workshop. Synthetic gemstones had been set, but they were so badly worn that they could not be preserved. Inside the ring, we can see an unfortunately rather indistinct goldsmith's mark with a large "T" in the ring band.
