Portrait of an Oriental Lady. Chinese School. 19th Century.

Descriptio Oil on panel. The painting depicts a portrait of a lady of high Chinese society, dressed in richly decorated traditional garments and adorned with floral hairstyles and accessories. Seated serenely in a lush natural setting, the female figure holds a branch of flowers while a deer stands at her side, a symbol in Chinese iconography of longevity, prosperity, and good fortune. Surrounding her, peony flowers reinforce the noble and auspicious character of the composition. The background is dominated by a dense vegetation landscape, with trees, branches, and leaves that envelop the subject in an intimate and contemplative atmosphere. The work stands out for its chromatic refinement, with a predominance of deep greens, crimson reds, and soft golds, applied with precision to the textile and floral details. The painting technique clearly reveals a influence of Eastern artistic tradition, especially in the stylization of the faces, the frontality of the figure, and the symbolic treatment of the surroundings. Despite its portrait nature, the image transcends the mere portrait to become an idealized representation of feminine beauty, in dialogue with nature and the cultural values of the context. This piece, probably made in the 19th century, reflects a taste for decorative painting influenced by China, highly valued both in its place of origin and in European collectors’ circles of the period. Dimensions: 69 x 40 cm and 77 x 47 cm.
