Portrait of a Gentleman. Spanish School. Late 19th Century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 116 x 130 cm. Full-length portrait of a standing young gentleman, formally dressed in a dark suit, with a chain watch, and a neutral background. To the left, a table with books and red drapery provide symbolic elements of knowledge and status. The face is treated with great restraint, and the lighting highlights the subject’s presence. The composition and style are in keeping with bourgeois portraiture of late 19th-century Spain, with restrained brushwork and an institutional sense. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
