Pontormo Special Issue. - Lot 91

Pontormo Special Issue. Paris, Macula, [reprint of the special issue originally published in 1979 in the journal *Macula*, nos. 5–6]. In-4, paperback, illustrated cover. A major critical collection devoted to Jacopo Pontormo (1494–1557) and his drawings. The publication includes, notably, the edition and French translation of Pontormo’s Journal, prepared from the autograph manuscript by Jean-Claude Lebensztejn, accompanied by reproductions of pages from the manuscript; an essay by Lebensztejn, *Miroir noir*; a study by Alessandro Parronchi on “Pontormo’s agnosticism”; and a study devoted to Pontormo as a draftsman. The volume is illustrated with 46 drawings. This publication is particularly interesting due to the inclusion of the Diary, an exceptional account of the painter’s daily life, work, meals, health, and relationships during his final years, while he was working on the now-destroyed frescoes in the choir of San Lorenzo in Florence. Old bookstore label on the back cover (price 120 F). Some slight scuffing on the cover; a good copy.
