Play with the Light by Gary Westall Painting 9.5 x 11.8 :: I painted this painting right on the property of our vacation home in Denmark. Since the weather was very changeable that day I wasn’t able to go out to the dunes as planned. So I stayed on the property and chose the immediate surroundings as my subject. My goal was less to create an accurate landscape depiction and more to consciously experiment with colors light and shadow. The intense blue and turquoise of the trees contrast with the vibrant shades of green in the sunlit grass. The path appears in unusual shades of violet and pink which are further accentuated by the bright patches of light. The painting was created spontaneously on site and is above all an attempt to express the mood of a changeable summer day through color. Signed lower left.
