Platinum Ring with Diamonds & Precious Zircon, From Our Workshop

Zircon is a precious and natural gemstone which is found mainly in Cambodia. It has nothing in common with the cheap diamond substitute "zirconia", which is created in the laboratory and is basically worthless. Genuine zircons are rare gemstones that can occur in many beautiful colours, with the blue specimens in particular being sought-after gems due to their unusually radiant blue hue. These medium blue zircons are called "starlite" and are created by firing natural rough zircons - which initially look almost like simple coal - at temperatures around 800 degrees Celsius for two to two and a half hours. The process is a science in itself, as the gems are packed into clay and then carefully heated in glowing coals. With a little luck, this process produces the unmistakable blue that is one of the most coveted colours in the spectrum of zircons and is the most highly valued. This ring from our workshop was created from the idea of presenting this gemstone from the other side of the earth, which became particularly fashionable in the 1920s. The ring, made of platinum, sets a large precious zircon in its center and holds the stone in eight secure prongs. Stepped shoulders are reminiscent of the Art Deco era, when the zircon was particularly prized. Six smaller brilliant cut diamonds can be found here to accompany the zircon. The rare blue of the gemstone thus creates a harmonious composition with the shimmer of the diamonds and the bright lustre of the platinum.
