Pierre Monti Torino - Thermometer - Wood, Glass

Rare and interesting folding travel thermometer with protective wooden case, hinged Antique collectible from the mid-nineteenth century, as suggested by the date "Paris 1850" inscribed on the scale. The latter, developed by René Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur in the early eighteenth century, was once widespread in Europe before being replaced by the Celsius system. At the top the maker's signature is visible, "Pierre Monti a Torino" (maker of optical and precision instruments active in Turin in the nineteenth century) The tablet bears the classic thermometric annotations of the era Ink/pyrography handwriting clearly legible Original glass column and functional (no bubbles or interruptions in the liquid) - The thin tube in the center with the lower bulb encloses the thermometric liquid (colored alcohol) Wood finish free of cracks
