Elements of logic: the study of the rules of reasoning, thought, and demonstration. 2. Physics or natural science: the study of bodies, nature, and the laws of the material world. 3. Ethics or moral science: the study of manners, good, evil, and human conduct. Context and scope • Educational objective: By offering this manual directly in French (mis en françois) rather than in Latin, Pierre Du Moulin sought to make philosophy more accessible to non-Latinists, aligning with the 17th‑century diffusion of knowledge in the vernacular language. • Author: Pierre Du Moulin was a reputed pastor and philosophy professor, an important figure in French and European Calvinism of his time.
