Pierre Darras – Spiritualité de Paris – Omer Bouchery – Original etchings – No. 38/150 – signed – Vélin d’Arches – 1941 Rare bibliophile edition by Pierre Darras, Spiritualité de Paris, published in 1941 by Henri Colas, Paris, and Émile Raoust, Lille, with original etchings by the French artist Omer Bouchery. The edition was produced in a strictly limited total edition of only 150 numbered and artist-signed copies. According to the edition note, the edition comprises: * 10 copies on Japon impérial, No. 1–10 * 10 copies on Japon ancien, No. 11–20 * 130 copies on Vélin d’Arches, No. 21–150 The offered copy is No. 38/150 and thus belongs to the 130 copies on Vélin d’Arches. The justification page bears the number 38 as well as the handwritten signature of Omer Bouchery. The etchings depict Paris with its historic churches, squares, streets, monuments and characteristic city views. The plate margins of the intaglios are clearly visible. Particularly noteworthy are the blue artist’s seals (“cachet de l’artiste”) of Omer Bouchery on the hors-texte etchings. These distinctive seals are clearly visible in the close-up photographs and are distinguishable from the artist’s handwritten signature on the justification page. The Vélin d’Arches used shows the characteristic high-quality paper texture; the Arches watermark is also verifiable. The offered copy also includes the typographically designed sectional leaves as well as the printed original cover/montage and a red protective folder. The etchings are overall in a pleasant state of preservation with strong and nuanced impression quality. The paper, cover, and folder show age-appropriate signs of use and aging, including occasional slight discoloration, stains, and edge and handling marks. The extent offered and the exact condition are documented in detail in the photographs. The photographs are expressly part of the description and decisive for the assessment of extent, features, and condition of the offered copy. The work comes from my private collection and is offered by me as a private individual.
