PHILIPPINES. Cagayan Valley Railroad Silver Medal, 1961. NGC MS-65. Honeycutt-545. Diameter: 45 mm. The single finest certified on either the NGC or PCGS population reports. Obverse: Train within wreath, date 1892 below, legend around "SEAL OF THE MANILA RAILROAD COMPANY"; Reverse: Legend "WORK COMMENCED/ BY/ HIS EXCELLENCY/ CARLOS P. GARCIA/ PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES", logs, bull, corn ears below, "CAGAYAN VALLEY RAILROAD EXTENSION" around, "JULY 15, 1961/ TUGUEGARAO, CAGAYAN" in exergue. A magnificent example of the type exhibiting boldly struck devices, smooth as made brushed surfaces and rich mottled patina. A pleasing piece that is vastly superior than normally encountered that is sure to catch the attention of many collectors. Struck to commemorate the ground breaking of the 306 Kilometer rail expansion. Then Philippine President Carlos P. Garcia aimed to connect Manila Railroad Company's San Jose, Nueva Ecija branch through the Caraballo mountains into the Cagayan Valley.
