Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640)

Peter Paul Rubens (1577–1640), - Follower of Portrait of Adriana Pérez Medium: Oil on canvas (relined), wear, signs of age, restorations. Dimensions: 50.5 x 40.5 cm (Frame: 66.5 x 56.5 cm) Housed in its presentation frame (complimentary). This striking Flemish Old Master portrait depicts Adriana Pérez (1568–1619), the noble wife of Antwerp’s prominent burgomaster, Nicolaas Rockox. This finely executed composition corresponds closely to the historical side wings of the celebrated Rockox Altar triptych originally painted by Peter Paul Rubens. The sitter is captured looking toward the viewer, elegantly wearing a traditional high white ruff and a dark dress, adorned with a detailed golden chain and a crucifix pendant. The painting wonderfully reflects the light play, stark contrast, and psychological depth characteristic of early 17th-century portraiture.
