Peill & Putzler, Sklo Union - Frantisek Vizner - Vase (3) - Glass

Dear Bidders, Thank you for your interest in my offer. You are bidding here on a three sculptural glass vases, brought together for their complementary geometric forms. The two Czech vases were designed by František Vízner for Sklo Union in the 1960s. The taller, narrower vase was made by Peill & Putzler in Germany, circa 1970s. Their weighty forms and textured surfaces give the group a striking, Brutalist-inspired Mid-Century Modern character. SOME GENERAL INFORMATIONS: František Vízner (1936–2011) was a Czech glass artist and designer. From 1962 to 1967, he worked at the Sklo Union design centre in Dubí, where he created pressed-glass designs that combined simple forms with a strong sculptural presence. Established in 1965, Sklo Union brought together Czech and Moravian glassworks producing pressed glass. Glashüttenwerk Peill und Sohn was founded in 1903 in Düren, a small town in (West) Germany. Peill und Sohn merged with Putzler (founded in 1869) in 1947 as a glass works and lighting company and became Peill + Putzler Glashüttenwerke.
