Peeping Out Man Kachina - Navajo - U.S. (No reserve price)

avajo-Kachinas are hand-carved decorative figures and a traditional art form that originated in the Pueblo-Indian culture (especially the Hopi) and were adopted and further developed by the Navajo (Diné). Originally, Kachinas (Katsinam) in Pueblo religions represent spirits of natural phenomena, animals, plants, or ancestors, serving as intermediaries to the gods. The Navajo adopted this aspect within their own cultural circle, where the strictly religious and ceremonial background, compared to the Hopi, receded into the background. While Hopi Kachinas traditionally carry deep religious significance and are carved from cottonwood root, Navajo figures are usually regarded as craft and decorative objects for collectors. Navajo dolls are often very colorful, robustly built, and richly adorned with materials such as fur, beads, leather, and feathers. The offered Navajo Kachina was created around 1987 by Navajo artist R. Tso. It stands about 45 cm high and about 19 cm wide.
