Rare handcrafted medieval bagpipe, built by the Dutch instrument maker Paul Beekhuizen to his own order. I am the first and only owner. The instrument is based on images of German instruments from the 15th century and is pitched in D — a tuning that blends beautifully with shawms, bombards and other medieval and Renaissance instruments. It is therefore in remarkably beautiful, “unplayed” condition. Included with delivery: Bagpipe complete with blowpipe and reeds A unique opportunity for players of early music, historical reenactors, or collectors of historical instruments. About the maker: Paul Beekhuizen (The Hague) was one of the most renowned Dutch builders of historical wind instruments. Largely self-taught, he established his workshop in The Hague in 1977. His catalog included early bagpipes and Renaissance woodwind instruments: copies and reconstructions based on historical sources — from medieval bagpipes to old drawings to baroque musettes, Hümmelchen to Praetorius, shawms, poms, rackets, kortholten and cornemuses. He also taught instrument-making courses. His instruments were played by ensembles at home and abroad, including the American Renaissance group Piffaro, which ordered several bagpipes from him in 1997. Beekhuizen has since passed away. His work is therefore definitive: his instruments are no longer new to order and rarely appear on the second-hand market. If you want a bagpipe from his hand, you must wait for one to become available — and this is one such example.
