Gehäuse inkl. Cuvette in 14K Roségold. Vorderseitig graviert mit den gekreuzten Wappen der Familie Bülow und der Familie Beccadelli di Bologna. Bernhard von Bülow heiratete bereits 1886 Maria Beccadelli di Bologna und plante einen gemeinsamen Umzug nach Rom in Folge des Mitverschuldens an der "Daily-Telegraph-Affäre" 1908 und seinem damit verbundenen Rücktritt aus dem Amt im Folgejahr 1909. Ferner ist der vordere Deckel innenseitig mit folgender Gravur versehen: "In dankbarem Gedenken an römische Vergangenheit und Zukunft - 1908 - Reichskanzler Früst Bülow - Maria Fürstin Bülow". Anhand der beiden Gravuren lässt sich vermuten, dass die Taschenuhr ein Geschenk Maria Beccadelli di Bolognas an ihren Ehemann Bernhard von Bülow war und den Ruhestand sowie deren gemeinsames Leben in Rom reminiszieren soll. Der Erhaltungszustand ist insgesamt sehr gut - das Gehäuse weist einige Tragespuren auf. Die vorderseitige Gravur ist aber dementsprechend makellos erhalten. Rückseitig befindet sich eine kleine Delle (ca. 2mm) an der Öffnungsmulde. Das Emaille-Zifferblatt mit arabischen Breguet-Ziffern und die Poire-Zeiger sowie das Glas sind in herausragendem Originalzustand ohne Beschädigungen. Das Brücken-Werk mit "Moustache"-Anker und Kompensations-Unruh läuft sehr gut (+8 s/d, 290° Amplitude) und befindet sich in einem guten optischen Erhaltungszustand. Engraved on the front with the crossed coats of arms of the Bülow and Beccadelli di Bologna families. Bernhard von Bülow married Maria Beccadelli di Bologna as early as 1886 and planned to move with her to Rome following his shared responsibility for the “Daily Telegraph Affair” in 1908 and his subsequent resignation from office the following year in 1909. Furthermore, the inside of the front cover bears the following engraving: In dankbarem Gedenken an römische Vergangenheit und Zukunft - 1908 - Reichskanzler Früst Bülow - Maria Fürstin Bülow" (“In grateful remembrance of Roman past and future—1908—Imperial Chancellor Prince Bülow—Princess Maria Bülow”). Based on the two engravings, it can be presumed that the pocket watch was a gift from Maria Beccadelli di Bologna to her husband, Bernhard von Bülow, and was intended to commemorate his retirement and their life together in Rome. The overall condition is very good—the case shows some signs of wear. However, the engraving on the front is therefore impeccably preserved. On the back, there is a small dent (approx. 2 mm) at the opening recess. The enamel dial with Arabic Breguet numerals, the pear-shaped hands, and the crystal are in outstanding original condition without damages. The bridge movement with a “moustache” escapement lever and compensation balance runs very well (+8 s/d, 290° amplitude) and is in good visual condition. Diameter approx. 50 mm, measured without the crown and lugs.
