Paris, Texas. $100 1902 Plain Back. Fr. 700. First NB. Charter #3638. PCGS Banknote Very Fine 20. Hailing from the seat of Lamar County along the border with Oklahoma. The city of Paris was served by four National Banks between 1887 and 1935 with the First National Bank (Charter# 3638) the first of these to be organized. This institution is not particularly rare overall, but offers a collectors a rare quality as it issued $50s and $100s starting in the early 1900s. Reflective of that very distinction, this $100 Plain Back was issued at some point during the 1920s after 1925 based on the bank/bank serial number format and boasts the stamped signatures of Cashier James A. Smith and President Rufus F. Scott which remain distinct despite circulation lending this note an attractive quality bound to be appreciated at this grade level. Estimate: $1,250 - $1,750. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
