PARIS-MATCH — TWENTY YEARS OF PARIS-MATCH, 1949–1969 - Lot 217

PARIS-MATCH — TWENTY YEARS OF PARIS-MATCH, 1949–1969 PARIS-MATCH. Twenty Years of “Paris-Match.” A narrative by Raymond Cartier. Paris: Paris-Match, 1969. Large folio volume measuring approximately 34 cm, with a blue publisher’s hardcover featuring a red, black, and white design on the front cover bearing the title. Abundant black-and-white photographic illustrations, reproducing feature stories, historical events, and advertisements that appeared in *Paris-Match* during its first twenty years. A commemorative edition published in 1969 to mark the twentieth anniversary of *Paris-Match*, whose first issue had appeared on March 25, 1949. The BnF describes the work as a 34-cm illustrated volume, published by Paris-Match in 1969, with a narrative by Raymond Cartier. The book chronologically traces two decades of current events, organized into four major periods: 1949–1953, from Europe’s recovery to the Korean War; 1954–1956, from Dien Bien Phu to Budapest; 1957–1960, from General de Gaulle’s return to John F. Kennedy’s inauguration; 1961–1969, from the Algerian War to contemporary events. The collection also serves as a fascinating record of press photography, advertising, and the layout of major postwar illustrated magazines. Condition: The volume appears complete, but the binding is severely worn. The spine is heavily damaged with significant loss of material and the covers are coming away at the hinges; the corners and edges are rubbed, and the cardboard cover shows various signs of wear. The interior appears to be in much better condition, with only a few normal marks and signs of wear.
