Pair of sculptures of Saint Joseph and the Virgin Mary. Colonial School

Descriptio Carved and polychromed wood. Dimensions: 31 x 20 x 12 cm each figure. Pair of sculptures representing Saint Joseph and the Virgin Mary, with polychrome robes in red, green, and gold, and serene expressions. The style shows Hispanic influence adapted to Mexican colonial aesthetics, with a naive treatment of volumes and an intense use of color. These devotional figures were common in domestic and convent oratories of the 18th century. They retain their original patina and polychromy in good condition. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
