Pair of Louis XVI Style Sphinx Bronze Chenets Manner of Pierre Gouthiere (French, 1732�1813) or Pierre-Philippe Thomire (French, 1751-1843), 19th century. Each transitional gilt bronze chenet having a patinated winged female sphinx on a stand with scrolling laurel leaf and berry vine centering on a female mask, and rising on tapering twisted legs. Both with a star mark and "17", one additional with an "8" mark. Approximate dimensions: 8 3/4 x 10 1/2 x 3 3/4 in. (22.2 x 26.7 x 9.5 cm.);
