Rembrandt’s Inspiration – A Timeless Cult Shell This species is historically world-famous: it is the only shell that the Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn ever immortalized in an exact engraving (1650). The shell features a spectacular, high-contrast pattern of pure white triangles on a deep black to dark brown background, forming a flawless mosaic. The shoulder crest displays the characteristic, robust nodules. As these predatory snails live in shallow coral reefs, such enormous, old shells in the sea are exposed to extreme environmental influences and are usually heavily weathered.
