Otto Natzler Glazed Ceramic Sculpture, 1978

This mid-century modern studio pottery vessel is a sculpture by Otto Natzler, dated 1978. The form consists of a wide, flattened, circular body with a small, irregular aperture at the crown, elevated on a short, tapering cylindrical foot. It is finished in a complex variegated reduction glaze with colors ranging from deep oxblood and burgundy to charcoal and moss green tones. The surface features signature Natzler glaze effects, including smooth gloss, fine crackle, and localized volcanic cratering. A faint metallic iridescence is visible in certain lighting. The underside of the foot is marked with an impressed square containing a stylized N and incised with the name Otto Natzler and the date 1978.
