Original positive cliché on a single copper plate

RAREST COPPER MATRIX (PLATE) FOR THE POSTER OF THE 1st INTERNATIONAL GLIDING CONTEST – ASIAGO, 1924. Exceptional and extremely rare original positive cliché on a single copper plate, incised in 1924 for printing the official poster or the advertising page of the 1st International Gliding Contest. The event, organized by the National Air League on the Asiago Plateau in October 1924, marks the official birth of unpowered flight in Italy. The refined period graphic etched on the plate depicts gliders and light monoplanes in flight above the mountainous profile of the Plateau. At the bottom, the textual composition reads: "Lega Aerea Nazionale - I° Concorso Int. Volo a Vela - Altipiano di Asiago Ottobre 1924", completed by the historic logistical phrases "Riduzioni Ferroviarie" and "Milano - Via Amedei 8". An artefact of extraordinary importance for the history of aviation and Italian printing. Being the primary production matrix, the object should be considered a unique piece. Dimensions: 31.5 × 22.5 cm. The front’s condition is excellent; the engraving maintains extraordinary sharpness, free from scratches, dents, or metal deformations that could affect reading of the drawing. The back is intact and genuine. Notable are the characteristic residues of the original typographic glue and a fascinating patina of natural oxidation (verdigris) that certify its authenticity and period use. A unique piece dedicated to collectors and connoisseurs of the history of the pioneers of Italian Aeronautics.
