ORIGINAL 1890S PENNY-FARTHING HIGH-WHEEL BICYCLE WITH HUB-MOUNTED LANTERN Original late 19th century penny-farthing bicycle, also known as a high-wheel or ordinary bicycle, featuring the classic oversized front wheel with small trailing rear wheel. This visually striking Victorian-era bicycle presents with exceptional display presence and desirable period character throughout. The bicycle appears to retain a high degree of originality, including its black metal frame, large spoked front wheel, small rear wheel, solid tires, original wooden pedals, and an early front hub-mounted bicycle lantern, the style commonly associated with high-wheel ordinary bicycles. The lantern is mounted at the front hub area and gives the bicycle an especially authentic period appearance. The bicycle is fitted with a brown leather saddle. The saddle may be an older replacement, but it is still of considerable age, likely 50 to 60+ years old, and blends well with the overall antique presentation. The frame, wheels, pedals, and hardware show honest age, patina, paint wear, and surface oxidation consistent with a 19th-century high-wheel bicycle. A highly decorative and collectible example of early bicycle history, ideal for a museum display, private collection, antique transportation collection, bicycle shop, restaurant, office, or Victorian-themed interior. Penny-farthings with original-style accessories, especially a hub-mounted lantern and wooden pedals, are increasingly difficult to find and make a dramatic statement piece. Condition: Very good overall display condition, with age-appropriate wear, paint loss, surface oxidation, and patina throughout. Wooden pedals are present. Hub-mounted lantern is present. Saddle appears old and serviceable, possibly an older replacement. Bicycle has not been mechanically tested and is being offered as an antique display/collector’s piece.
