Presented for auction by Second Vintage This sought-after Omega Automatic from circa 1950 immediately draws the eye with its attractive textured honeycomb dial and distinctive fancy horn lugs. Housed in a heavy 80-micron gold-plated case and powered by the early caliber 332 bumper automatic movement, this configuration is a collector favourite that offers tremendous mid-century character. Brand: Omega Model: Automatic Reference Number: 2482-1 Serial Number: 12570829 Movement: Caliber 332 bumper automatic, 17 jewels Dial: Textured honeycomb pattern with applied gold-tone numerals and dart indices Case Size: 37 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Gold-plated (80 microns) Production Year: circa 1950 Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: +10+14s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The dial features an attractive textured honeycomb or waffle pattern, beautifully accented by applied gold-tone Arabic numerals, dart indices, and a classic sub-seconds register at 6 o'clock. It exhibits an age-appropriate patina, with even spotting across the surface that adds to its vintage charm. The dauphine style hands display visible oxidation and spotting on their surfaces. Case and Crystal The elegant vintage case is defined by its distinctive fancy horn lugs, giving the watch a striking profile on the wrist. The heavy 80-micron gold-plated finish shows honest wear, including scratches and handling marks on the case flanks and caseback, alongside some wear to the gold plating on the high edges. The smooth bezel is integrated into the case design and bears light scratches consistent with the rest of the watch. A scalloped edge crown, clearly signed with the Omega logo, allows for easy adjustment. The domed acrylic crystal remains in excellent condition, remaining clear with minimal visible surface scratches. Movement Inside beats the Omega caliber 332, a 17-jewel bumper automatic mechanism finished in the brand's classic copper tone. The movement is engraved with OMEGA WATCH Co, SWISS, SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS, 332, and the serial number 12570829. Visually, it presents well, with minor surface scratches and marks visible on the rotor and bridges. Recording +10+14s/day on the timegrapher. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is fitted with a modern strap made of black leather with contrast stitching. It appears unworn or very lightly used, providing a comfortable and stylish fit. Condition Good vintage condition. The watch displays honest, age-appropriate wear throughout. The textured honeycomb dial shows even spotting and patina, while the dauphine hands exhibit visible oxidation. The 80-micron gold-plated case and fancy horn lugs bear scratches, handling marks on the flanks and caseback, and some expected wear to the plating on the high edges. The domed acrylic crystal is excellent and clear. The timegrapher data confirms the bumper automatic movement is running with impressive accuracy for its age. Dimensions The case measures 37 mm in diameter, excluding the crown. Remarks This Omega Automatic stands out through its highly desirable combination of a textured honeycomb dial and elegant fancy horn lugs. The presence of the early caliber 332 bumper automatic movement further cements its appeal for vintage collectors seeking a watch with distinct character and reliable mechanical performance. History Reference 2482-1 was produced during the late 1940s to early 1950s, a period when Omega was defining post-war elegance and mechanical innovation. The brand's bumper automatic movements, such as the caliber 332 found in this example, are highly regarded by enthusiasts for their unique winding feel and historical significance, bridging the gap between manual wind calibers and modern full-rotor automatics. Combined with stylized case geometries and textured dials, these mid-century timepieces represent a highly celebrated era of classic Swiss watchmaking.
