NORWAY. 1/2 Speciedaler, 1835 (Star). Kongsberg Mint. Carl XIV Johan.

Magnificent Example of the Legendary "Star" Type NORWAY. 1/2 Speciedaler, 1835 (Star). Kongsberg Mint. Carl XIV Johan. NGC MS-62. KM-302; Sieg-14; NM-27B; Delzanno-27b; Bruun-11023. Weight: 14.45 gms. A wonderful rainbow toning further enhances the pronounced eye-appeal of this magnificent example. This legendary rarity, featuring a star placed beneath the Kongsberg mintmark, has long been a subject of debate. However, a strong consensus has now emerged that the star was added because Caspar Hermann Langberg - although not officially taking office as mintmaster until the following year - wished to distinguish "his" issues from those of his predecessor, Johann Michael Kruse, for whom he was substituting during the latter's illness. Estimate: €12,000 - €18,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here.
