The story of Volvo's sports car begins with founder and president Assar Gabrielsson, who went to America and fell for a Yankee-style icon of the time, the Corvette C1. This inspired Volvo to its own interpretation, the birth of the P1900 in 1956. The 1800 S from 1969 is here the offering and subject as the successor to the P1800 'Jensen'. The term sports car is as fragile a term as classic car. Sometimes a sports car must have a racing background to qualify as a sports car. Others must at least possess sports technologies.
