Nicolai Johan Løbnitz: Christian VIII of Denmark's luxury-qualityhunting

King Christian VIII of Denmark's luxury-quality sporting rifle by Nicolai Løbnitz, featuring his breech-loading system. The rifle was likely produced between 1835 and 1840, prior to Løbnitz adopting his under-lever locking system. It features a stock of exquisite wood; the action is richly engraved with scrolling foliage, depicting a gilded hunting dog on one side and a recumbent stag on the other, marked "LØBNITZ PATENT" and "KIØBENHAVN"; the breech tang is decorated to match the action and features a gilded standing red deer stag; the trigger guard is marked "NO 110" and decorated with a gilded red deer stag and hind; the underside of the action displays foliage along with a gilded huntsman and dog; and it has an octagonal rifled barrel (approx. 9.5 mm caliber, approx. 56.5 cm long) with a browned finish, marked "N. LØBNITZ PATENT KIØBENHAVN" and decorated with a gilded serpent coiled around a torch at the breech end. The rifle comes with its original case—mahogany-veneered pine lined with red velvet (approx. 65.5 cm x 19.5 cm x 6 cm)- featuring the King's crowned monogram in silver on the lid and containing all original accessories.
