Nicholas Provost, London, a late-17th/early-18th century walnut longcase clock the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell with the twelve-inch square brass dial having a raised silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals and fleur-de-lys half-hour markings, engraved at VI o'clock with the maker's name Nicos. Prevost, London, the matted dial centre having a subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture and ringed winding holes, with cast-brass cherub-and-crown corner spandrels and engraved edge decoration, with decorative blued-steel hands, the flat-top walnut case with three-quarter pillars to the hood, with brass bound weights, height 222cm. Note: Nicholas Prevost was a well-known clockmaker recorded working circa 1710.
